Pretty in Pink/ Arizona/ Internship

I finally got my cast on today. It is much lighter than I thought it would be which is awesome. I feel much more comfortable flying to Arizona on Tuesday to take my sister and her friend on Spring Break now. I am very excited for the trip, even if I can't really go in the pool or climb the Camelback Mountains like I originally planned. I LOVE going new places.

(Even the bathrooms are gorgeous!)

So in a stroke of bad luck the day I got my internship is the day I ruptured my tendon. However, they have been very accommodating and I will be starting on Wednesday. I will technically be a Public Relations Assistant at CuteyBaby LLC (http://www.cuteybaby.com/) It is a new company that seeks to enhance the lives of children and parents through ingenuity and design. They produce originally designed wall decals for children's rooms as well as stylish and eco-friendly modern cloth diapers. It is a cool company and should be a great experience.

March Madness

My NCAA bracket is looking pretty bleak. I don't feel that bad only because unless you are extremely lucky at guessing teams, or a pshychic your bracket most likely sucks as well. I have 50% percent of my final four left: Syracuse and Kentucky, and I have Kentucky winning it on most of my brackets so at least I still have some hope. I still cannot believe that Northern Iowa beat Kansas and knocked them out of the tournament... crazy. However, at this point I would not be all that surprised if St. Mary's or Washington ended up winning it. Well not Washington, I would be extremely upset if they ended up winning after beating Marquette in the first round... But 2010 is definitely the tournament of upsets.

Pictures/Update

I am healing pretty well from surgery. The swelling is going down. Now I am just waiting to get my cast on the 29th. In case you were wondering what exactly I was doing when I tore my tendon here are a few pics from the show. They are from about 2 minutes before it happened...

I am starting to get very bored. My aunt brought over fifteen DVD's and my other aunt brought over a DVD player and little flat screen so I can watch movies in my room. It has been awesome. I am extremely lucky to have great family members that go out of their way to help me out and to try to keep me entertained. I have to admit though, the DVD player is getting much more use then the puzzle my Gram sent over...

My sisters and I watched Father of the Bride Part II which is hilarious. I have not seen that movie in years. I also ordered a bunch of books and DVD's from the Niles library. On my list is the 2010 GRE book so I can start studying for the test. That should keep me occupied for awhile : ). As well as The Godfather Part I and II, my dad and I are going to have a little marathon one night. Those movies are so good and I have not watched them since senior year of high school in my Modern Fiction class.

If anyone has any suggestions on good books to read, or movies to watch please send them my way.

Surprises! : )

I am so lucky. Today I received two bouquets of flowers and several cards. They really brightened my day. Thanks everyone! I also got a prayer card that says they are praying for me everyday at a church. Well I can certainly use all the help I can get... : ) I am very excited to spend my evening watching basketball, I have time to watch all the games I want for once. Definitely a positive. Go MU!

Not the best St. Patrick's Day

So needless to say the day after surgery I did not get to partake in any St. Patrick's day festivities. I am definitely planning on celebrating half way to St. Patrick's Day in September. I think I might have to go to Marquette Bars because they are the only ones I have ever seen have a 'halfway to St. Paddy's Day Party.' I can't wait to have a Guinness, it will be awhile since drinking and crutches don't go well together.

My nerve block wore off around 3:30am yesterday morning... after that it was pretty much excruciating pain for most of the day. I hope I never have to have surgery again. Although, last night I did manage to eat the corned beef, cabbage & potatoes my Mamo sent over for me. It was so good! And I am feeling much better today despite the fact that painkillers and I do not really get along. BAS

Surgery

(pictures: Me in recovery still numb = no pain... yet, and my foot after surgery)

The surgery went well. Due to my asthma I could not have general anesthesia so they gave my a spinal block and a nerve block for my left leg from the knee down, sedated me and gave me oxygen. This was actually good because when I woke up I wasn't groggy or sick feeling or anything. Once I was able to feel my legs again I was able to leave the hospital. The nerve block on my left leg will year off in about 14 hours... then I am looking at a few very pain filled days. After that I'll be home free until I get my cast in about 10 days.

Poor Beckham

David Beckham completely tore his Achilles tendon too... It will be six months before he can play again. I feel his pain, it's definitely a long recovery process.

Looks painful huh?

Change of Plans

I made this blog a few weeks ago thinking that it would be a cool way to record my travel adventures. I was going to start with my upcoming trip to Scottsdale, AZ in April with my sister and her friends for Spring Break.

Unfortunately last Wednesday night I was Irish Dancing in a St. Patrick's Day Show at Gaelic Park in Oak Forest when I ruptured my left Achilles tendon. I thought I broke my ankle because I heard something loud pop. I didn't know that a tendon snapping could make that kind of noise. I was mostly just shocked when It happened. I couldn't figure out why I was on the ground at first because I didn't fall. My leg just gave out when the tendon snapped. Looking back I should probably have been embarrassed to be laying in the middle of the stage in front of 200ish people, but at the time the pain was intense. My dance teacher had a wheelchair (thank god!) I don't know how I would have gotten out of there without an ambulance then. My sister drove us back to the North side and my mom and I went to the ER at Lutheran General Hospital (If you need to go to the ER, seriously go there). It had the best ER I have ever been to. The people we so nice and helpful.

I followed up with an Orthopedic Surgeon at the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute on Friday. He said surgery is my only option followed by a cast for a month and a boot for 2- 3 months. And physical therapy for 6 months. A LONG process. Unfortunately during that amount of time I am in a wedding. I am hoping I will not be ruining Meg & Karl's wedding pictures with a big black ugly boot. My Doc said he would try to have me in a (flat of course) shoe by then. So fingers crossed.

I have moved back into my parent's house for my recovery because let's be honest, I need help. I have never been on crutches before and they suck. My surgery is scheduled for sometime on Tuesday. I have also never had surgery before... sigh. I cannot believe my first plaster cast is going to be at the age of 23. Although I hope I get to pick the color. If I have to stare at it for a month it might as well look good.So now that I have ALOT of free time. I am going to blog. Expect updates and probably a picture or two of my cast. I really am pretty bored.
